Top Pickups in 2007

This is a run down of my favourite pickups this year. This leans pretty heavily to outer wear and denim.

10. Wings and Horn knit hats. For me a winter hat is an essential. These two caught my eye. The pom pom is really gangsta. The hats are also over sized, so they don't fit really tight. If you lean this over to the side, you can get a really pimping look happening.

9. Rag and Bone Jumper. I kind of liked this. I've had this thing for cardigans this year. This one is made from wool, but it kind of feels like felt. I like the buttons and the extra pocket up top. It's also got this detail, on the lower sleeve -- some sort of elbow patch.

8. Sugarcane Okinawa. I got these this year. I still haven't had a chance to debut them yet, but I'm really satisfied with them. They're made from the sugarcane/cotton blend and left hand twill. The denim on these is just sublime -- you get a little slub and these subtle differences in the colour. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep these ones blue and not make them an everyday jean. I don't think that you'll many pairs of these on the street.

7. A gaggle of Jack Purcells. I loaded up this year. I guess the Chuck Taylor is the more common and popular choice, this is my the Jack Purcell takes it to another level. They aren't as common. They have this stealth quality to them, they might look like the Chuck Taylor at first but then when you take a closer look they're something totally different. I think my favourites are the gray ones. They're made of twill, not canvas. I've only seen one other pair in the city.

6. Oni Blue Fit Denim. I'm a big fan of these. The denim is super slubby and somewhat coarse looking. There are a lot tougher to fade than I would've thought. I got almost two months of daily wear into them and I've hardly dented them.

5. Engineered Garments Field Jacket. This one is unlined. It was little big; I was eying it through the spring, but someone scooped my size. I paired it with a Y-3 hoodie, which makes a nice inner layer.

4. N-1 deck jacket. This is something I spent most of the year looking for and only picked up a few weeks ago. Now I can look like Lee Marvin in Point Blank. It's got a really fitted look and the lining seems pretty warm. This will be great on those chilly days in fall and spring.

3. Engineered Garments Mountain Parka. Even though they call it a mountain parka its a field jacket as far as i'm concerned. I was eying this one all fall, I picked it up on sale at the end of november. This one besides a couple of detail issues (snap buttons, some extra pockets) is lined with a wool lining. I haven't had a chance to wear it yet, but I think that this will be a really decent fall jacket.

2. 45 rpm Soraikho Slim. I've only just gotten these, but these were a major item on my to get list. Unlike some brands that feel they have to a super-slim look with a severe taper, these are a straight leg cut that's a got a slimmer silhouette.

1. Nom de Guerre waxed cotton rain coat. I absolutely love this piece. I feel like a U-boat captain when I wear it. Its got a rugged military look, but its cut really slim. I'm really looking forward to see how this ages because wax cotton gets a patina as it ages.
