Big Bunny's Girl of The Month: Tia Tanaka

She's part french and vietnamese. She does porn for a living, or at least she did according to wikipedia. She looks really wholesome, i guess that's why she often plays teens (they fix her up in pony tails and give her some toys to play with) in movies. She has a tatoo of a dragon on her back, its really tastefully. You can see part of it the picture just below, although the picture isn't really all that flattering to her.

These are much nicer. Look at that smile.

Recent Pickup: Unis Shirt

I picked this up a few weeks ago. It's a checked shirt, with a mostly blue pattern -- although there is a green over-check worked into the pattern. Here's a high resolution picture (in natural sunlight) so you can better see the pattern (click on it for the details).

Its really lightweight cotton, so its really comfortable in hot summer weather (i debuted it last friday). I picked it up on sale at Uncle Otis. I never realized how much of a FAB douche bag clientele that store has until i picked this up. This shirt is definitely not for the douche bag set, which probably explains why i was able to pick it up on sale.

Musical Selections

I had a chance to listen to a lot of music this week. The selections were mostly jazz.

Wednesday was Thelonius Monk day. I listened to his stuff for most of the day.
The best of the bunch was "Brilliant Corners:, which really is brilliant. Its from the period when he was recording for the riverside label. The word on the riverside stuff is that half of it (about 7 CDs/albums are great, and the other 7 are OK). Brilliant corners is a great album from that period in Monk's career. Another highlight worth checking out is Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane, the Complete 1957 Riverside Recordings, two masters working together -- what more can you ask for. I listened to a few others, which didn't stand out as much as the other two (Alone in San Francisco, Monk's Music, Misterio), but they're a lot better than the stuff that gets passed off as jazz these days.

Thursday was Grant Green day. Grant Green is really overlooked, although he was probably quite heavily sampled during the golden age of hip hop. The early part of his career was more blues and modal jazz, and then there is his jazz-funk and soul jazz period. The blues stuff can be a little on the mellow side, which is fine if that's what you want. Am I Blue is really mellow, Idle Moments is a little more upbeat. Both are pretty good. Where Grant Green's stuff really comes alive is when he plays soul jazz. When I listened to his Alive!, which is a live recording, all I could think was WOWWWWWW. Then I listened to Live at Club Mozambique, and I thought this is even better than Alive!. While not at the intensity of the two live recordings his Blue Breakbeats also has some great soul jazz/jazz funk -- you should definitely check out his Ain't it Funky Now on that recording.

Today I'm listening to Bobby Hutcherson. He's someone that also doesn't get talked about a lot, but if you listen to any hip hop with really chilled out samples of someone playing the vibes then most likely its a sample of a Bobby Hutcherson recording. I've got something called the Stick-Up! playing right now. It's really a mixed bag, some of the stuff is a little more up tempo, while the rest is more chilled out. I kind of like the chilled out vibe stuff better. This is from the 60s. I also got a chance to listen to some of his stuff from the 70's, an album called Cirrus. This is really something that you have to check it out. This really takes the chilled out vibe to an atmospheric level.

Last Night's Party

This is one of the things I look forward too in the morning -- a website devoted to taking party pictures. The photography is by Merlin Bronques, who grew in Quebec. He's basically got the trashy club skanks and douche bags that he photographs in Last Night's Party party section and some more artsy stuff in the urban pinups section. The party pictures are in the same sort of vein as the Cobra Snake, but tend to be a lot raunchier.

While the percentage of NSFW images varies from post-to-post, it would be best to be safe than sorry if your at one of those workplaces where viewing this images would be looked at negatively. Here are some selections from something that's happening in Las Vegas this week to illustrate my point.

I like the urban pinups as well. When people say that photographers get a lot of ass, a quick look at the urban pinups will probably convince you that this isn't some sort of urban myth. Here are a couple of examples, but you can find high resolutions pictures of the urban pinups at his web page and in the urban pinup section.

I don't rate web pages, but I would give this a high rating if I did, but probably best to take some precautions if you have to.

A.P.C Rescue: Update Pictures

They got washed last week because they getting a little grimy and smelly. Not a whole of wear since the last picture post, a few days here and there when it gets really hot and humid. These pictures are all in natural sunlight with no flash, so the colour is the true colour. This is the third wash in cold water with detergent (this does not include the initial hot soak i did to get the length skrinkage out of the way).

These are not too heavy on the crotch whiskers because they're really loose. However, the leg whiskers and lap fade are coming along very well. The lap on this pair (pre-wash) was getting a bit of a greenish tint to them that must have been dirt and sweat. There is much heavier wear on one side because of my courier bag, which illustrates the asymmetry you can get with the wear on a raw pair of jeans versus a manufactured finish.

The lap fad on this pair might have a lot to do with them being a warm weather jean this and last summer. I think the sweat from the thighs gets absorbed into the denim and it loosens the indigo dye from the fibers from the underside. I didn't see as much lap fad on the sugarcane '55. Even with this pair of Rescues i'm breaking in right now it doesn't look like there will be a really heavy lap fade -- compared to these ones. While there could be differences in how much wear the lap gets, right now the most apparent difference i can see in how i'm wearing them is that my new rescues get benched when it gets too hot. It'll be interesting to compare the two pairs, once the new pair is broken in and washed.

You can see the wallet fade on the back pocket. Also the honeycombs behind the knees have also come in quite well.

I don't have any ankle honeycombs -- i think the denim is too light and not stiff enough to get them well developed. The fades you near the hems are primarily the effects of getting caught in the rain when I first started wearing them.

Recent Pickup: Y-3 Akasaka

I was originally planning to do one big post on the sneaker pickups, something like a classic versus a more contemporary design, as represented by these Y-3s. However, as I was looking at the Y-3's a little more closer I think that there are some elements of some classic Adidas tennis sneakers.
These are the Akasaka, in white. I spotted these earlier this year at the Brown's on Queen, but then they disappeared. I was looking through the Browns in Hazleton lanes and spotted them at 40% off so I decided to pick them up. I liked them because they present a more "contemporary" look that doesn't say douche bag. In other words, this is not a sneaker that douche bags in this city will be overly interested in (not pointy enough in the toe and no flashy colours or glowing shit. These are pretty non-descript when worn with jeans, which will cover the Y-3 on the heel and the tongue.

I really like the details on them. Like the suede-ish trim at the front of the sneaker.
Also it might be hard to tell from the pictures but these are leather and canvas. The toe and the heel are in leather, but the middle is canvas. It gives it a bit of two-tone feel because the canvas is a little brighter than the leather.
The Y-3 logos and part of the back of the sole are also navy blue in colour, although it might be hard to tell from these pictures.

I like the sole too. Its like an inverted field cleat with the Y-3 scatter around. I'm not sure how well they'll grip on wet pavement, but these aren't like to be see much action in the rain so it won't be an issue for me.
You also great these great little bags for the sneakers. That's classy.

The Akasaka are really light, but the sole of the shoe is not flimsy (its really firm). The lightness of the sneaker reminds of the Forest Hills, but with a more substantial sole. (The forest hills sole feels like its even thinner than what you get with a flip flop, so it can get a little uncomfortable if you are walking long distances with them.)

I kind of thought that the Akasaka might be Yohji Yamato's version of a Stan Smith, but after looking through my collection I think that the Forest Hills might be a better comparison.

The toe on the Forest Hills and the Akasaka is flatter and not as round as the Stan Smith. Also the Forest Hills and the Akasaka also share the same suede-like trim on the front of the sole.
The silhouette on all three shoes is fairly similarly, but the Akasaka and Forest Hills may not be as bulky as the Stan Smiths and perhaps slightly sleeker.

Recent Pickup: Jack Purcell Black Canvas Sneakers

This is the second pair of jack purcell's i mentioned in the last sneaker update. These are black canvas. I found them in some unknown store. Plain and simple. This could be perfection.
